🦠Guild Wars 2 How To Get Hero Points After 80
If you level from 1-80 and do no other challenges, you get enough HPs to finish the core skills and traits. That is it. No left overs. (Because these lines need to be fully completed before you spend points in Elite lines)Fully unlocking core skills =98 hero points.Fully unlocking core traits =300 hero points.=398.
When you hit 80, if you don't have HoT or masteries, the exp doesn't go towards anything (same as if you have HoT but have masteries for that region maxed already). Then I guess I need to buy HoT so the experience would count towards something towards character impovement once I reach level 80. Thanks guys for the info.
And when there is a new expansion, the happy traders will be the first ones to ask for a refund, because they cannot instant-unlock the new elite-specializations. About the 2nd idea: To unlock an elite-specialization we need 250 Hero Points. That would be 250 spirit shards.
250 Hero Points (Elite Specialization) You can unlock skills by spending hero points in the training tab inside the hero panel. Hero points are earned by leveling up and by completing hero challenges found throughout Tyria. Hero points are character currencies used to progress characters through training skills and traits.

2) Join a Hero Point Train or ask some friends to help, stay out of combat while they clear the way to the 'channelled' hero points (where you don't need to fight anything) and then claim the point. However I have to say I'm not sure you can keep your pet completely safe, even as a soulbeast.
Having played a lot of both this game and Destiny 2, I vastly prefer this system. Especially with Destiny 2's Stasis unlock, having to go through the quest 3 times, and unlock each ability 3 times was so asinine and I hated it.
Each elite specialization requires 250 hero points to fully unlock it, with each hero challenge in expansion maps providing 10 of those points. Gear and builds. One of the first goals of a level 80 character should be to get a full set of gear of the desired attribute combination, together with runes and sigils.
It's not really a leveling system. It's a horizontal expansion system called Masteries. Masteries are broken into expansions. The core game has it's own masteries. Path of Fire has it's own. Living world Seasons are part of specific expansions, so Path of Fire and Season 4 of the living world are the same masteries. Same with HoT and Season 3.

But in reality there is no reason to start from zero after a long break. imo GW2 is an awful game to ''start fresh'' on. The experience across the board is just more fun without the limitations of levels/traits and activities you have access to, even if you go back to low level stuff.
